How Long Should a Quote Actually Take to Send
FlyQuote Team · April 10, 2026
"How fast should I be quoting?" doesn't have one right answer, because a same-day emergency repair and a whole-home remodel aren't on the same clock, and shouldn't be. But most contractors don't actually have a target in mind for either one, which means turnaround time ends up being whatever's left over after everything else that week.
Urgent and simple: same day, ideally same hour
Emergency and simple repair work should move fast, because the customer's decision window is short and competitors are usually responding just as quickly. If a no-cool call in July takes you two days to quote, you've likely already lost that job to whoever answered first. Aim for same-day here, and same-hour when the job is simple enough to price without a site visit.
Standard jobs: 24 to 48 hours
Most bread-and-butter work, a fence install, a bathroom repaint, a standard HVAC replacement, doesn't need to move at emergency speed, but it shouldn't sit for a week either. A day or two is a reasonable target, long enough to think it through properly, short enough that the customer isn't wondering if you forgot about them.
Complex jobs: a clear timeline beats a fast one
Full remodels and multi-trade jobs genuinely need more time to scope properly, and rushing them produces worse quotes, not better ones. What matters here isn't speed so much as communication. Tell the customer up front, "you'll have a detailed proposal by Thursday," and then actually deliver it by Thursday. A clear, honored timeline builds more trust than an unrealistic promise of speed you can't keep for a job this size.
The real benchmark to worry about
More useful than a universal number is tracking your own actual turnaround honestly. If you think you're quoting within a day but your records show it's closer to four, that gap is worth knowing about, because it's very likely costing you jobs you don't even realize you're losing.
